International success

International success for Northwave’s Ciara Smith, who won silver medals in both her events, 16 year girls 100m and 200m breaststroke, at the 2017 Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Swimming Championships in Brisbane this month.

Nearly 1900 of Australia’s top young swimmers competed at the meet, along with a team of 22 from New Zealand.

Teammate Annabell Simpson swam a personal best time in the 16 year girls to come 13th in 100m backstroke and was 7th in the 200m backstroke final.

Both girls swam under Northland Open and Age Group records – Ciara in 200m breaststroke and Annabell in 100m backstroke.

Swimming New Zealand has selected both girls to attend the SNZ Outward Bound camp for promising swimmers, and Ciara is named in the New Zealand team to compete at the Australian State Teams Championships to be held in Canberra in September this year.
