Success for Northland Swimmers in Melbourne

Northland swimmers Ciara Smith and Annabell Simpson (both 17) have returned home with a clutch of medals from the 2018 Victorian Open Short Course Championships in Melbourne, where they competed against some top Australian swimmers.

Ciara won three bronze medals from her races in 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke. Her 100m breast time of 1.09.04 was a new New Zealand age group short course record. Annabell won silver in 200m backstroke and placed 5th in 100m back and 8th in 50m back. Her personal best times in 50m and 200m backstroke broke the Northland Open short course records.

The next event for both swimmers, who train with the Northwave swimming club with coach Monica Cooper, is in a couple of weeks. The New Zealand Short Course Championships which runs from 2-6 October at the Owen G Glenn National Aquatic Centre on Auckland’s North Shore.
